Cemetery Rules

The Big Springs Cemetery Association is the governing board and maintains control of
the Big Springs District Cemeteries.

The cemetery is maintained through an Interlocal Agreement with the
Village of Big Springs and charitable gifts.

The Board is elected under the laws of the Nebraska District Cemeteries and given the
authority to adopt rules and regulations concerning the maintenance of the
Districts Cemeteries.

The Board has charge of but is not limited to the following:

Plantings – The Board is the sole authority of all planting on the cemetery property.

Grave Decorations – Flowers and ornaments are permitted on gravesites, but must be in vases
or on the stone. Any permanent additions to the headstone must be within the confines of the
six inch base around the headstone.

Memorial Day – Decorations not in vases or on the headstone must be removed within 5 days. 
Organizational flags must be removed by sundown.

Seasonal Decorations – Seasonal decorations must be removed by March 1st.

Price of Burial Spaces – The price shall be $100 per space. The price shall be doubled for
buyers who are neither taxpayers nor residents of the cemetery district. Plots may not be resold
for more than the original purchase price.

Grave Opening – For a full burial or cremation there is a $150 grave opening service fee that shall
be obtained from the Mortuary for the caretaker. There is a $25 location fee from the Monument
Company, when setting headstones, for the caretaker.

Burial Times – Burials may be done Mondays through Fridays before 4:00 PM.
No burials after 4:00 PM. Saturday burials are to be done by noon. No burials are allowed
on Sundays or Holidays. Exceptions will be charged double price.

Monuments – Monuments must be set flush with the west line of the burial space. All headstones,
ingle or double, must be set ground level, with gravel base, the six inch band to be as level with
he ground as the landscape permits. All curbs above the natural ground level must be taken out
by the owners or by the caretaker with a fee charged. Foot stones must be set flush with the ground.
Infants may be buried at the head or foot of a regular space, if approved by the owner, with a flat
headstone. Temporary grave markers will be removed after 90 days. It shall be required that any
buyer of a burial space to mark graves with a permanent stone. Shepherd hooks, flags, vases and
such shall be in the cement, not in the ground. All burial vaults must be concrete, metal or fiber-
glass. Any stone needing to be moved is the responsibility of the family.
